The spot is situated 1.5 hours drive north of Nairobi at the eastern escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. The three takeoffs are situated on the summit of the Hill (S, N, SW) that juts out of the valley at 2600m and a height of 600m from the valley floor. It is the most iconic, and oldest (found in the 1990s) flying spot in Kenya. All annually organised competitions take place from here (next competition September 2022)
It is possible to camp close to takeoff for a small fee.
Takeoffs possible in all directions apart from in easterly winds (beware of rotor)
There is a big landing field at the base of the hill, which is suitable for accuracy landing. In favorable wind, Kijabe takeoffs are suitable for toplanding.
